Tarkastad community
Working together for the Karoo
Residents, workers, farmers, artists and community organisations are shaping Tarkastad’s future through shared projects, care for the land and local enterprise.
Active initiatives
Projects that keep the town growing
Environmental care, recycling and local development run through everyday work in Tarkastad. Each initiative is led by the people who live and work here.
Environment
Recycling and waste care
Neighbourhood collection points and volunteer clean-ups keep streets and open veld cleaner, with practical sorting shared across households and schools.
Land
Karoo plants and gardening
Hands-on gardening sessions share knowledge of indigenous plants, water-wise practice and the seasonal care that hardy Karoo vegetation needs.
Development
Local skills and livelihoods
Workshops in craft, practical trades and small enterprise help residents build livelihoods rooted in Tarkastad’s own economy and heritage.
People and organisations
Tarkastad works when people look after each other and the land they share. Every project starts with a conversation in the street.
